Research inspiration with the Hospital Director

On Thursday 15th June Medtech4Health’s node in the west of Sweden, MedTech West, arranged a day of inspiration under the title Do You Want to Research? (Vill du forska?) The day offered many inspiring lectures from members of the Sahlgrenska Academy, nurses training, Sahlgrenska Innovation Platform and more.

Since 1997, following the merger of three regional hospitals, Sahlgrenska University Hospital provides emergency and basic care for the Gothenburg region and highly specialised care for West Sweden, serving around 1.7 million people. It is also one of six teaching hospitals in Sweden and works in co-operation with the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg.

Hospital Director Ann-Marie Wennberg was inspiring

The day began with a very inspiring and up-to-the-minute presentation by Sahlgrenska Hospital Director Ann-Marie Wennberg. She really spotlighted the necessity of clinical research and medical technology as a facilitator for solving the challenges facing healthcare. Ann-Marie Wennberg talked about the challenges of democracy, the transmission of competence and health costs, but also that these can be balanced with innovative medical technology.

Innovations need to be a response to demand and health care needs. The active participation of healthcare professionals is essential in the development and implementation of innovative technology and processes. Other presentations during the day underlined this.

MedTech Week with a smorgasbord of information

The purpose of MedTechWeek is to show the importance of medical technology for patients and healthcare personnel. Participants in the day of inspiration were shown a large number of examples of how technology can lead to better health.

A short introduction from Henrik Mindedal of MedTech West was followed by Reidar Gårdebäck’s outline presentation of the different activities carried out by Medtech4Health (including two current calls for applications for funding).

After that came a day of presentations that were both fascinating and inspiring.

22 december 2025|
