The Award and the Criteria

The Medtech4Health Innovation Award is intended for everyone who works on developing and implementing innovative medical technology in healthcare. Through the Medtech4Health Innovation Award, we want to highlight good examples of the healthcare profession actively participating in the development and introduction of new technology, which leads to significant improvements in healthcare, and to new medical technology reaching the market.

SEK 100,000 and a film

The prize of SEK 100,000 will be awarded to a workgroup, clinic or similar, and will be used to assist personnel in their further education, to attend conferences, take part in study trips or the like. In addition, professional documentary films are made about all the finalists, which may then be used for marketing purposes.

(See the films we made about previous years’ finalists and award winners. Follow this link.)

The finalists and award winner will be chosen by a jury. The award ceremony will take place during Swedish Medtech’s Annual General Meeting on 23 April 2020.

Target groups

The award is intended for personnel, clinics or businesses inolved in health and medical care who have successfully worked on the development and implementation of innovations in medical technology (products and services). Anyone can make a nomination, but it must be employees involved in healthcare and medical care who are nominated. You may also nominate yourself.

Critera

The innovations should have been implemented in daily activity and have resulted in improvements to: diagnosis; treatment; tools; or operational processes, or in some other way have contributed to improved healthcare to the benefit of patients.

The nominees may have been active in some of the various stages of the innovation process, for example, initiating innovation-friendly procurement. They may also have been involved in developing processes in connection with the introduction of medical devices or services.

An important consideration is that the innovation can be transferred to other clinics and scaled up.

Innovation in healthcare

From an international perspective Sweden has been very successful, over a number of years, in developing new medical technology. Collaboration between researchers, entrepreneurs and healthcare professionals has been very important for this innovation process, which has resulted in the creation of many new medical technology companies, both large and small. The participation of healthcare professionals is crucial for a new product to solve important patient problems appropriately and to make it possible for the product to be tested and introduced into healthcare. In this way, the benefit to patients can be demonstrated. This in turn ensures a market for the product.
