Uppsala’s Innovation Engine has created a path to better collaboration between healthcare and business
Medtech4Health’s Innovation Engine in Uppsala has now reached its goal. Under the heading “From current situation to new situation – collaboration for innovation in healthcare”, the project has opened up for more structured and effective collaboration between healthcare and business.
Medtech4Health’s strategic project Innovation Engines aims to accelerate the pace of development in healthcare. Since its launch in 2017, the project has given five regions the opportunity to use healthcare as an engine to develop innovative medical technology solutions that benefit patients.
Thanks to an ongoing exchange between the Innovation Engines, it has also been possible to spread good ideas and working methods between the regions.
Uppsala’s Innovation Engine ended at the end of the year with a number of clear processes and tools for new collaborations between healthcare and business.
– Uppsala’s Innovation Engine has changed the way we work with innovation in Region Uppsala. The results show, among other things, how important it is to involve all support structures in development. And that it takes time, openness among businesses and courageous management to succeed in change,” says Lena Strömberg, Program Director for Medtech4Health.
– A big thank you to everyone who has participated in the project since its inception and contributed to a promising change in Swedish healthcare.
Among the sub-projects carried out during the project period is the development of new methods for evaluating ideas and prototypes in clinical settings. The project has led to a pilot that will investigate the introduction of new technology for fall prevention at one of the Academic Hospital’s departments.
Under the heading Innovation & Renewal, managers from different healthcare administrations have carried out skills development to strengthen knowledge and understanding of innovation management, renewal and change. The approach has provided new tools to continue building the organization’s innovation culture. The tools can, among other things, provide stronger internal collaboration to meet the business community in an effective and legally secure way.
